Working Principle

The essence of a Li-ion hammer drill is to convert the battery’s electrical energy into a compound motion of rotation and axial impact via a brushless motor, using high-frequency hammering to drill into concrete and brick walls.

The BOSI Li-ion Brushless Lightweight Hammer is powered by a 20V/6.0Ah battery driving a brushless motor. Through a planetary gear set, it delivers power along two simultaneous paths: one path drives the piston in a reciprocating motion within the cylinder via a crank-connecting rod mechanism, compressing air to form an air cushion that propels the striker to forcefully hit the beat piece, generating an axial pulse impact at a frequency of 0–4,500 blows per minute.

The other path drives the chuck to rotate via bevel gears, causing the drill bit to rotate and cut synchronously at a no-load speed of 0–950 r/min. A safety clutch mechanism is integrated in series within the drive train. When the drill bit encounters rebar and becomes stuck, the clutch instantly disengages and cuts off the power transmission, achieving an "auto-stop on rebar" function, protecting the operator’s wrist and preventing gearbox tooth breakage.

The Li-ion Brushless Hammer operates on the same principle but with greater hammering force, suitable for professional conditions, with a no-load speed of 0–1,050 r/min, an impact frequency of 0–4,800 blows per minute, and a maximum drilling capacity of 28 mm.

The Lightweight Hammer weighs only 1.87 kg and comes standard with two batteries and one charger; the Hammer weighs 3.44 kg and also comes with two batteries and one charger as standard. Both feature a round-shank, two-flat two-slot SDS quick-change chuck — the bit locks in place as soon as it is inserted into the detent, and is released by pressing the release collar.

Recommended Scenarios

Ceiling drilling, pipe and cable installation, air conditioner bracket mounting, exterior wall work

Floor slab drilling, through-wall pipework, steel structure base anchoring

The primary criteria for selection are the working height and the risk of encountering rebar. For elevated drilling, exterior wall installation, or renovation of older buildings where the distribution of rebar is uncertain, prioritize the 1.87 kg Lightweight Hammer; its safety clutch prevents binding and recoil, protecting the wrist.

For continuous drilling at ground level or on a stable platform, the Hammer, with its higher impact frequency and larger diameter capacity, matches the pace of professional construction.

Both models come standard with two batteries and one charger, share the same SDS quick-change chuck, and are compatible on the unified 20V battery platform, allowing batteries to be used interchangeably.

What Materials Can Be Processed?

BOSI Li-ion hammer drills can handle a variety of material drilling needs, from home improvement to construction sites:

Concrete and Reinforced Concrete

The Li-ion Brushless Lightweight Hammer can drill holes up to 22 mm in concrete, automatically stopping on rebar thanks to the safety clutch. It is used for ceiling suspension holes, air conditioner bracket anchoring, and pipe support installation.

The Li-ion Brushless Hammer optimally drills 8–20 mm, up to a maximum of 28 mm, suitable for floor slab wiring holes and through-wall pipe reservations.

Brick Walls and Blocks

Switch dual function modes between drill and rotary hammer. Use the rotary hammer mode for fast penetration through brick walls, and the drill mode for blocks to prevent edge chipping.

The SDS quick-change chuck makes swapping the round-shank bits with two flats and two slots convenient.

Steel and Metal Sheets

The Lightweight Hammer can drill up to 13 mm in steel, enabling holes to be drilled in steel structure webs and angle iron brackets, using high-speed steel bits in drill mode.

Wood and Renovation Substrates

The Lightweight Hammer can drill holes up to 30 mm in wood, useful for wooden joists, plywood, and furniture installation pilot holes, with high wood-drilling efficiency in drill mode.

Common Problems and Solutions

Common Problem

Cause Analysis

Solution

Corresponding BOSI Design

Drill bit stuck and cannot be extracted

Bit has hit rebar or poor dust removal

The Lightweight Hammer's safety clutch disengages automatically; reverse at a slow speed to withdraw. Do not forcibly twist the tool body.

The safety clutch automatically stops upon hitting rebar, protecting the gearbox and wrist.

Drilling efficiency drops noticeably

Blunt carbide tip on the drill bit or the chuck is not locked

Check the cutting edge of the bit and replace it promptly; clean dust from inside the SDS chuck to ensure it locks securely.

The SDS quick-change chuck locks the bit as soon as it is inserted, with a standard two-flat, two-slot interface.

Insufficient battery runtime

Prolonged continuous rotary hammer operation or battery aging

Store with a 30%–50% charge; rotate between the two batteries and one charger.

The Lightweight Hammer features a high-capacity 6.0Ah battery, the Hammer has a 4.0Ah battery, both with one-button battery level check.

Abnormal body vibration

Bent drill bit or worn chuck

Replace with a qualified drill bit; check the chuck clearance, and if necessary send for maintenance.

The brushless motor provides smooth power output; the lightweight body has well-controlled vibration.

Mode switching does not engage properly

Forcing a mode change when gears are not fully meshed

When switching modes, gently rotate the chuck to assist gear alignment.

The dual-function (drill/rotary hammer) mode positions are clear and switch smoothly.
